Why did you choose Pilz?
As a Software Developer I chose Pilz because I was moving home to Cork and knew that Pilz was a highly respected software house in the city.
What do you like best about your role?
The role requires dealing with different problems throughout the day. Everyday brings something different. And more often than not that something is challenging.
What do you do on a typical day?
My tasks are varied and on any particular day I can be analysing a new feature/enhancement from an architectural point of view, defining a new concept for PAS, documenting existing architecture or black boxing existing PAS domains. If time allows some research/prototyping is possible. Areas of interest here would be Mobile/Web applications for new and existing Pilz products.
How long have you been here and what have you accomplished?
I have been here for 7 years. Initially I joined as a Software Developer where I worked on the PSSWinPro suite of tools. Following this I joined the PAS team where my roles changed from Technical Lead of the PAS Network Team, Technical Lead of the PAS Platform Team and Software Architect for Pilz and member of the overall System Specification team for PAS/SSP. During this time I have been involved in a lot of designs/implementations that I think have contributed to the success of the system. I have also learned a great deal from those within Pilz – from Design/Architecture Skills to Process Skills to Communication Skills
What are your interests outside of work?
I have been doing a lot of swimming the past 2 years and this year I am planning to do a triathlon. I enjoy hill walking/climbing and we have a small club in Pilz. We organise a climb/walk every 6-8 weeks. I also like to learn new computer concepts/languages on my own time outside of work. With a family this can be difficult. I’m trying to get the kids into LISP so I can kill two birds with one stone!
